A bit about me

I started this blog as a way to communicate my own ideas about issues in psychological research. I am particularly interested in individual differences in personality and intelligence, evolutionary psychology, and the psychological aspects of altered states of consciousness, particularly those induced by psychedelic drugs. I think that mystical and spiritual experiences are a fascinating area for scientific study, but claims about the ultimate nature of reality founded on such experiences should be regarded with scepticism.

I graduated from University of Sydney in June 2012 with an MSc in Psychology. My research thesis was on factors associated with subjective well-being in people with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. Among my findings were that depression had the strongest (and negative) relationship with subjective well-being of all the variables assessed. Additionally, self-assessed health, and the personality traits agreeableness and extraversion had substantial and positive relations with subjective well-being, even after accounting for depression. Type of antipsychotic medication taken (i.e. first or second generation) made no apparent difference. During my candidature I taught undergraduate psychology students, particularly focusing on personality and differential psychology.

I completed my Honours degree at Macquarie University and my BA at University of New England, majoring in psychology in both degrees.

I am available for private tutoring in statistics and can provide feedback on psychology assignments. I am also available to assist researchers with literature reviews and searches. If you wish to contact me leave a comment with your email address (will not be publicly displayed) and I will get back to you.
